Dean Ween vs. Star Wars

This is a funny interview at starwars.com which consists entirely of Dean Ween talking about Star Wars. Click my masterfully Photoshopped image on the right to read it.
While watching the films, Ween says he can't help but appreciate the Jedi characters that fans rarely get to see, as well as the new villain that dominated Episode III. "My favorite characters are the lesser known Jedi Knights like Shaak Ti, Mace Windu and Kit Fisto," Ween says. "General Grievous is by far the coolest character in the series though. He's pretty much the last dude I would want to fight. He's the only villain that you ever actually see the Jedi afraid of."
Being the Star Wars fan that he is, Ween says that he enjoys playing a Jedi Knight even if it is in brick-like form. "I'm kind of embarrassed to admit that I have finished Star Wars LEGO for PS2," Ween smiles. "I even went so far as to build all of the ships and attain true Jedi status on every level, unlocking the secret door for the bonus at the end. It took me about eight weeks."

Try and guess, what's this an image of?
A war-torn battle zone?
A deserted strip mall?
A highway accident?

Illusion Dudes

Akiyoshi Kitoaka, the creator of the famous "Rotations Snakes" illusion and other graphical oddness, posted up a new illusion based on the lil' one I made the other day.
If you're not familiar with the Rotating Snakes Illusion, click the image on the right and you'll see why it's called that. It's not an animated image, but your brain animates it somehow. Cool and/or nauseating!
You can see all of his stuff here.
Walt Anthony also created a version of this Illusion.
Barun Vurdlak also joined in.

Album Review — All Request Live — by Ween

It seems the mighty band Ween decided to do a concert "live" over the Infernet and this album is the result. I'm not sure if there was more stuff from the Infernet show, but what you get here is a bunch of really great tracks.
This album has a lot of real gems on it. It's recorded in a studio, so the sound is really clean and there's no audience yelling in the background. Some of the tracks on here I actually prefer to the original album versions, and a couple of them haven't appeared on a Ween album.
Ween's a pretty funny band. There's a good amount of talking and goofing around here. They keep referring to themselves as "live on the Infernet." But guess what? That gets old after a couple listens. If you use iTunes, set up the songs to clip off the witty banter from the start and end of most of the songs. Go ahead. It's not permanant. You won't feel a thing. Instant album betterment!
So let's see what your $9.99 gets you:
Happy Colored Marbles
Great version of this song. I wasn't crazy about it on Quebec but it's a lot more mellow here, and the last couple of minutes of instrumental are Ween-o-rific.
The Stallion Part 1
This is a slightly more toned version down of the Stallion Part 1. But this song has to be really over the top. I don't think you can really outdo the insanity of the original Stallion Part 1 from The Pod.
The Stallion Part 2
This is a slightly more toned version down of the Stallion Part 2. But this song has to be really over the top. I don't think you can really outdo the insanity of the original Stallion Part 2 from The Pod.
The Stallion Part 3
This is a slightly more toned version down of the Stallion Part 3. It's great. Cool to hear it with a full band, not just the drum machine...
The Stallion Part 4
For the true Ween fan this excellent song alone justifies the purchase of the album. Not just because it hasn't been on an album, it's just a really well written and well performed gleaming nugget of goodness. But, uh, less gross than that sounds.
The Stallion Part 5
Drink. Drink Stallion. You are thirsty now. ...I don't get it!
Demon Sweat
I don't have the words to describe this song. This is the music of the gods, people! It's pretty amazing what they have done with this, it's really a completely different song than the The Pod version. And both versions are great.
Cover it with Gas and Set it on Fire
What the...???
Awesome Sound
This song may be awesome but it's just way too long!
Cold Blows the Wind
Well done, creepy song "about a dead bitch." Well performed, but, this version just makes me want to listen to the original from The Mollusk to hear those twisty electronic tendrils creeping into my ears.
Pollo Asado
Funny. That'll be $16.07. Out of ... $20? Okay, $16.07 is your change.
Reggaejunkiejew
See "Awesome Sound" above!
Tried and True
This sounds very close to the studio version. This song has some bad vibes emanating around it.
Mononucleosis
This is just one of the greatest songs ever made. About having Mononucleosis. Seriously, this is an incredible track and one of my favorites on this album.
Stay Forever
This one's very close to the White Pepper version too. A little less twangy.
Where'd the Cheese Go?
This track can only be described as a tour de force. It started life as a jingle for a Pizza Hut commercial, but the the Pizza Hut executives ultimately rejected Ween's attempts. They started making more and more perverse versions loaded with profanity and weird noise. Well, this six minute version pretty much pulls out all the stops. It's all about trying to get some pizza from Poppa John's. It's highly offensive...in many ways...
And that's my little review of All Request Live. A highly recommended album! Oh yeah, I love the cover art too! Go get it from iTunes!

Li'l Color Illusion
Here's a little illusion I made.
Stare at the black dot in the center of this image for 30 seconds.
Without moving your eyes, move your mouse over the image.

The image looks like it's in color, until you move your eyes...
Thank you, thank you.
UPDATE: Hello to everybody from Spain that dropped by.
I made a new little illusion just for you.

Chinese Health Posters

No, that's not a Chris Ware comic, it's a Chinese health poster.
There's a whole collection of them here. Check 'em out, some of them are really funny. Others have striking design and interesting illustrations. But this one's just gross...

New Website... now I need a New Brain

Well that was pretty mind-bending. I finally got my custom header working with Blogger, as you can see up there on top.
Don't look too close at the three navigation buttons, they are about shifting down 2 pixels for some reason.
I just ordered a new brain and when it arrives I'm sure I'll be able to figure out how to fix 'em.
