Roundtable: 1st Thing in the Morning

Welcome to the Roundtable. We're a motley group of bloggers and every Thursday we have a small discussion at someone's site... and this week, it's here. Anyone can comment on these posts, so make yourself at home.

This week's topic is: your 1st blog of the day.

Most of us are creatures of routine: roll out of bed in the morning, grab coffee, catch the train. Since we're all bloggers we probably have a few sites we just gotta check every day. So what's the first website you read?

(Checking the weather doesn't count.)

Oh, and mine is Lileks.

I check Doonesbury and IMDB every morning, because I have no great depth.

I bring my green tea, Cheerios, and New Moon into the office, open Firefox and access a bookmarks folder that opens in tabs. Those tabs include: 3 news sites, 4 email accounts, 1 science site, and a super secret other site. I have blogs folders too, but I usually look at those later.

Why, are you taking a survey?

After I check my own blog to read any comments that have been left there, I check my other sites. But the first place I visit that isn't one of mine is The Daily Bitch.

Hmm... it varies, I guess.

Today, of course, I checked your blog first, since you're hosting the Roundtable!

In general I usually tour my fellow Roundtablers' blogs early in the day.

Also on the early hit-list are...

A Sweet Familiar Dissonance
The Rest Is Noise
Stevergo
Arts Journal

The order I visit them, though, is pretty random, depending upon how much time I have and how much coffee I've had...

Okay, so I'm a dork. You asked about the first blog site, not web site, in general. I haven't had any caffeine yet and am easily confused...

The Roundtable blog site is usually one of the first I check, and then my friend Skot at IzzlePfaff.

I have a bookmark folder of blogs I check regularly (which includes the other Roundtablers, among others), and work my way through, in no particular order.

I have three windows (I envy those with Firefox's tab option, TPTB apparently don't believe in anything not created by Bill Gates) open and dedicated to this purpose through the day.

Gmail, Salon, and blogs, with side trips to fantasy sports and a couple of online communities I frequent.

The first clicks go to Sadie and Dave.

Then I check to see if there were any idiots at my place overnight and erase them. Then I post what I drafted in preparation the night before. Then I go to work.

But I can't live without my Sadie and my Dave.

As I mentioned, I check my fantasy hockey scores. I know that's über geeky, but theres's money riding on one of them. Then I go to my blog and start reading the regulars at random.

I check a Hawaii blogger: ilind.net since he usually has a post up, first thing in the morning. Most of the other blogs I love to read post later in the day.

cool.... lots of new stuff to check out. (except Izzplaff link's not working!)
I'm sure the hennepin county training and employment course list detail is endlessly fascinating.

Oh, and 1st blog OR 1st website of the day is acceptable!

I guess I'm unique in that my web access is now restricted at work but I can still see some of the regular sites I used to check. Thank God I work in the auto industry so they still let me see all my automotive news sites being the car fanatic that I am...

MyYahoo
www.thecarconnection.com
www.autoblog.com
My Sitemeter account
www.Saabnet.com
My 401K sites to track my investments

I was going to say that Vincenzo's was my first stop, but I didn't even make RW's top 2. So I actually check my business bank balance first thing and our database, before I visit any fun sites.

John, you really must update. Eventually they'll come for you and it won't be pleasant. Recalcitrant.
