Hi,This are several paths from time to time of the same river (path's year is sometime provided: 1765, 1820, 1880, ).
Oh, I've forgot to tell that it's part of a topographic map.
A map of the Mississippi River as cartographed at different time periods defining the boundary between Louisiana and Mississippi
Seems there are a few people who check out Earth Observatory's picture of the day here also!Tracks of the Mississippi through time.
Yep, you got it, it's a map showing the changes of the mighty Missisip.
The remnant cut-off portions of rivers that meander are called "ox bow lakes".
